Acne Home Remedies

If you’ve been on this site before you’ll know that I am a huge advocate of choosing natural and holistic treatments over prescription medications wherever possible, for the obvious reason that many such supplements often have adverse side effects which can exacerbate the problem rather than improve it.

acne home remedies that work, which if implemented properly will significantly reduce your acne while promoting overall health.

So Why Acne Home Remedies?

So, why acne home remedies? Why not just pop down to the pharmacy and get some other natural acne treatment? Well, perhaps the most significant reason is because the methods which will be discussed here are, all things considered, the easiest and cheapest option to implement. That being said, these methods come with a caveat: they are not always the most effective means of addressing acne and they often only address limited aspects of its internal causes.

While the primary focus of this post is to discuss various methods on how to get rid of acne naturally, it is worth noting in the broader sense some of the methods discussed are designed to boost overall health and well-being and are therefore recommended as something to be incorporated into anyone’s lifestyle, regardless of whether or not they suffer from acne.

The Importance Of Diet to fight acne

The relationship between acne and diet is one of the single most important factors to consider when addressing your acne problem. This is actually old news and you have likely already heard it a million times before, well that’s because it’s true! Fact – making a few simple changes to your diet will have a profound effect on your skin. Below I’ll be discussing a few ‘acne’ super foods and explain how and why they help to clear up the skin by addressing the problem internally as opposed to just treating the symptoms of your acne.

Fish

Let’s start with fish. Apart from being extremely tasty if cooked right, fish are a brilliant source of health fats, which are of vital importance to your diet. The omega-3 fats in fish are very effective at addressing high levels of cellular inflammation, a significant contributing factor to acne and something which acne sufferers’ bodies need all the help it can get in correcting.

Garlic

Then we have one of the more well known acne home remedies and super-food, Garlic. Not only is garlic fantastic should you come up against a vampire (just a little joke), it has also been scientifically proven to have significant anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial capabilities. So dice up some garlic, then fry it in some olive oil and it can be incorporated into just about ay meal – though probably best to give the garlic a miss if you have a hot date that night.

Water

For goodness’ sake drink lots of water. I shouldn’t even have to go over this people! Hydration is one of the single most important factors in your fight against acne. By increasing your water intake (aim for 40-45%) of your body weight in ounces, your bodies ability to flush unwanted toxins will become radically improved. Furthermore, healthy water intake helps to remove these toxins from the liver and kidneys. To give your drink of water a little boost, add a smidgen of lemon to take advantage of its anti-inflammatory properties.

Skin Treatments

Ok, so we’ve made some changes to our diet to address acne from within. Next up one the acne home remedies regime is to apply some skin treatments that will help alleviate the symptoms of acne, i.e, make the physical manifestation of the acne (zits and pimples) less visible. Below I’m going to be discussing three of my favorites: Coenzyme Q10, Aloe Vera and Silver.

Coenzyme Q10

A natural cream containing something that I am a huge fan of is Coenzyme Q10 and to be honest I only stumbled upon it very recently (about 3 weeks). There are certain lotions that use Q10 as a dominant ingredient and the results which can be achieved by these creams are incredible. The Q10 is a powerful anti-inflammatory as well as anti-oxidant. It can be used daily.

Aloe Vera

Okay, I can’t exactly take much credit for this because most people have heard of it, but it is worth mentioning all the same because it really is great stuff for health in general and definitely one of the natural acne treatments that work. There is not only a wealth of medical reports confirming the amazing healing properties of this substance, but I myself have experienced them.

You can apply raw Aloe to any skin rash, infection or irritation and you likely won’t be disappointed with the outcome. I must emphasize this though, and it is only appropriate to do so considering we are talking about ‘home’ remedies, do not go out any by lotions with Aloe Vera in them: take raw Aloe Vera, right off the plant – it’s real sticky, but it’s the business!

Silver

Silver, however is another story. When it comes to skin, in silver you will find a friend, a friend with huge antimicrobial characteristics at that. There are some lotions on the market which claim to have harnessed this characteristic of silver for use in treating skin ailments. Bacteria contributes enormously to the build up of acne, so applying something to the skin which makes use of a strong antimicrobial is a recipe for success, especially when it comes to those nasty zits with the white heads.

Final Thoughts?

You’ve probably heard this saying a million times before: ‘prevention is better than cure’. Well this has never been more true when it comes to acne. You can treat the symptoms of acne till you’re blue in the face, but if you don’t make any positive changes to address the internal cause of acne, it will just keep coming back. So do you yourself a favor and take extra special note of the section above on diet. It will take time, but once you remove the toxins and imbalances that are causing your acne from within, that will be the moment you start making real progress on solving your acne problem.
